La Splendens Factory ou la Maison Muller, rue Muller dans le 18ème arrt de Paris est une "Plateforme artistique innovante dédiée à la jeune création contemporaine".

Lieux de vie et de créations, ouvert, accueillant, mais aussi résidence et cocon pour ses artistes, la maison est un souffle d'espoir sur la jeune création, une idée "un peu folle" comme le dit son fondateur, mais qui a fini par aboutir.

La Splendens Factory a pour ambition de rapprocher deux mondes de la création :

• Les créateurs d’émotion. Ils sont artistes (musiciens, réalisateurs, plasticiens, photographes, graphistes, designers…), artisans de talents, geeks (inventeurs en nouvelles technologies). Ils souhaitent et méritent de vivre de leur art.


• Les créateurs de valeur. Ce sont les entreprises et les entrepreneurs. Ils ont de plus en plus besoin de mettre du sens, de l’émotion, de la beauté au cœur de leurs structures ou de leurs produits. Le succès commercial ne pouvant plus être atteint avec les recettes de l’ancien temps (un prix bas, des fonctionnalités, une utilité froide), ils viennent chercher la source qui réchauffera leurs univers.

Doublement médaillé d’argent au concours des meilleurs apprentis de France il y a de cela 10 ans, Guillaume Sanchez est, à 24 ans, l’un des meilleurs chefs pâtissiers de sa génération. passé par les Compagnons du Devoir qui fut pour lui le berceau de sa carrière , il apprend chez les plus grands dans la France entière avant de poser fouets et couteaux sur la capitale , aujourd’hui consultant en palace et boutique a l’international , il est aussi un entrepreneur aguerri avec l’ouverture de deux lieu gastronomique a son actif.

Après des études de communication visuelle puis de photographie aux Gobelins, Violaine Carrère ouvre son studio photo Silver Clash en 2012, au coeur de la Splendens Factory rue Muller. Photographe passionnée de design, art et mode, Violaine Carrère multiplie les collaborations artistiques et recherche la diversité dans toutes ses activités. Elle ouvre le concept store le white en début d’année 2014 avec la factory et partage son temps entre son studio et sa galerie. En tant qu’artiste Violaine travaille un univers très lumineux, en suspens, où elle fige les modèles vivants comme des natures mortes et où la femme se dénude à la façon d’une statue. Elle shoote aussi de la mode et de la nature morte.

Vainui de Castelbajac est une illustratrice et réalisatrice d’animation à l’univers drôle et coloré. Auparavant créative dans la publicité, elle en a gardé le goût des concepts forts et impactants, et exerce aujourd’hui son art dans la publicité (Ben&Jerry’s, Tic Tac, RATP, Sosh...), les magazines (L’Express, Office et Culture..), l’édition (Delcourt, Éditions du Chêne...). Elle est également l’auteur d’une bande dessinée éditée chez Delcourt : Dr Rorschach, qui raconte les thérapies absurdes d’un psychiatre.

Bien qu’il ne s’identifie pas encore comme appartenant à un style bien défini, plusieurs aspérités et détails dans l’ensemble de ses œuvres se rejoignent et se font écho, lui donnant une personnalité artistique déjà bien acquise. Les teintes froides dans le choix de ses couleurs émanent sur l’ensemble de ses productions et les univers utilisés, sous-entendus entre réalisme et surréalisme, reflètent son envie de traiter plus profondément du lien qu’il fait coexister entre le monde de la rêverie, propre à chacun, et celui des vivants.

à la limite de l’illustration, de la calligraphie, de la peinture et du graff, Florian Marabu est un artiste polymorphe qui s’amuse avec le dessin et impose son univers aussi bien sur papier que sur les murs. Il termine un travail pour un bar à Bruxelles, où il s’occupe de toute la communication visuelle et du design d’espace.

Hanaé Ciuni, est une jeune illustratrice, artiste-peintre, vivant à Paris. Autodidacte, elle complète sa formation artistique en intégrant une préparation aux ateliers des Beaux-Art de Paris. Dans son atelier parisien, elle déroule un fil continue qui caractérise ses œuvres donnant vie à un monde chimérique, dense et singulier. Elle met aujourd’hui sa créativité et sa technique aux services d’artistes, de marques et de labels de musique. Elle a aussi réalisé des performances en dessinant lors d’évents pour des concept store.

England calling: Insight into the Lazarides Gallery, London

 I'll be soon in England again, my second homeland. This trip will enable me to plunge into my favourite trends in arts and music, new and less new. More soon. In the meantime, I'll post here some recommandations and ideas I fell like sharing and recommending.

Lazaride Gallery, London 

Set in the heart of London's Fitzrovia, Lazarides Rathbone exhibits many of the most significant artists thriving outside the conventional contemporary art market. While Lazarides is considered the international market leader in what is dubbed urban art, many of the contemporary artists on display defy categorisation. Since being founded in 2006 Lazarides has been a constant force in championing the careers of artists who have transformed the way art is made and presented. These include a generation of pioneering street artists such as Mode 2, Invader and Todd James alongside influential British portrait artists Jonathan Yeo and Antony Micallef.

Since its inception Lazarides Rathbone has hosted a variety of prolific exhibitions spanning both the ground and first floor levels, including JR's global Inside Out initiative and 3D's major retrospective of Massive Attack visual history. As the New Year commences, Mark Jenkins returns to London with his debut solo exhibition at Lazarides Rathbone. Moment of Impact extends the American artist's multidisciplinary practice and thought-provoking interventions into the gallery space for the first time. Jenkins presents a new body of hyperrealist work, encompassing a compelling series of unseen three-dimensional canvases and life-sized figures created exclusively in the UK.

Moment of Impact follows the artist's popular appearance in Lazarides' group showcase BRUTAL last October, in addition to various international exhibitions throughout America and Europe over the past year. Recent highlights include 2014's Miami Art Basel, Nuit Blanche Paris and widely acclaimed shows in LA, New York and Cologne. As well as within formal gallery programmes, Jenkin's provocative interventions can be found in major cities globally, challenging the way in which the public engage and experience urban environments.

The upcoming solo exhibition will introduce a new collection of child-sized sculptures constructed in situ alongside mixed-media still life canvases, continuing themes from the artist's distinguished kicked paintings series. Jenkins attempts to remove himself from conceptual ideas associated with creating each artwork, instead focusing on the medium and production process, allowing the finished work to initiate its own relationship with each new space it inhabits.

About the artist

Mark Jenkins is an American sculptor and installation artist based in Washington, DC. Jenkins’ hyperrealist installations aim to question social interaction and the manner in which we engage with urban environments, drawing inspiration from the late figurative sculptor Juan Munoz and Albert Camus’ philosophies on the absurd.

The mixed-media artist developed his own idiosyncratic technique of casting objects with packing tape and plastic wrap, creating a range of ominous figures and objects spanning the past 7 years. Once in the public space, Jenkins’ ghostly sculptures lead brief and lonely lives at the mercy of a society that rejects unwanted visual intrusions. In a world where artists are becoming brands and brands camouflage themselves as artists, Jenkins attempts to keep the environment stimulating. He turns regular space into art space and believes the ephemeral nature of street art is essential to maintaining a visual heartbeat in the city.

Lazarides Rathbone is pleased to present a major new body of meditative self-portraits by Antony Micallef entitled Self.

In an era when the selfie is ubiquitous, his long-awaited solo return unveils a series of energetic self-portraits on canvas and paper, presenting the ultimate commentary on this contemporary norm.

Self highlights a departure in style and language from the artist's earlier series Impure Idols (2007), Becoming Animal (2009) andHappy Deep Inside My Heart (2011). Stripping away the excess prevalent in this earlier work, Micallef has parted ways with the colourful pop language that dominated these previous series in exchange for a set of self-scrutinizing works that turns the looking glass upon himself and his medium.

The paradoxical notion that the self can be uncovered through the most narcissistic of gestures is explored through his relationship with the paint. The self-analytical dialogue is enacted through mark-making, the artist's hands and brush carefully constructing layer by layer in a vicious attack of the canvas. Set against Rembrandt-like backdrops of pastel and colourfully marbled hues, thick brushstrokes overlap, bleed and fuse into one another constituting a unique and authentic persona.

Antony Micallef's ultimate self-portrait, Self subverts the selfie paradox and presents a wiser artist in deep reflection.

"False Flags, the most overtly political song Massive Attack have done up to this point was inspired by the civil unrest centered around Paris which resulted in fierce rioting in the french capital during October/November 2005. These events inspired 3D in the making of the track as it became a commentary on the state of the European Union, a far more direct message than the vague decade-old Eurochild image which had a similar idea behind it.

Originally there was no set timeline to release False Flags, as it was very much a track of the moment which would have lost its edge if included on the next proper album which was not due for at least another year. A digital download was the first obvious option but this was then changed in favour of releasing it on Collected, Massive Attack’s “Best Of”, when the idea of such a career retrospective was touched upon by Massive Attack’s management. It was also the b-side to the Live With Me single".

Dans une langue éprise de poésie, l’auteur djiboutien, vivant entre la Corne de l’Afrique, l’Europe et les Etats-Unis, Abdourahman Waberi donne vie à un personnage inspiré de la légende de la soul music, du hip-hop et du jazz américains, Gil Scott-Heron. Son « Sammy l’enchanteur » et son chat qui sert de voix de narration nous emmènent sur les traces des derniers jours du musicien, entre Paris, New York et Berlin. Un livre entre fantasme, légende et réalité, qui nous plonge dans une tranche d’Amérique complexe et talentueuse.

Dans ce livre, il y d’abord la patte d’un écrivain féru de culture orientalisante : un chat aux sept vies accompagnant son maître adoré prend la parole et passe de sa vie de soufi à celle de compagnon de route du musicien. Puis arrive à petits pas, la complexe personnalité de ce musicien génial et addictif autant qu’addict. On ne peut s’empêcher d’écouter « The Revolution Will Not Be Televised », de l’inoubliable Gil Scott-Heron, disparu en 2011, celui que l’on surnommait le « Bob Dylan noir ».

Ecrit suivant un plan très découpé, centré autour des ellipses et sauts dans le temps, ce livre promenade, succession de récits et de digressions, nous mène entre plusieurs univers. Il y a d’abord le Paris que ce Sammy l’Enchanteur, double de Scott-Heron donc, a tant aimé, autour notamment de la légendaire salle du New Morning où il atterrit pour un de ses derniers concerts, en avril 2011, du Faubourg Saint-Denis et d’un Montmartre d’expats artistes. Un Paris consacré à l’amour, celui du public, celui du héros qui se laisse aller un peu – il a tant de mal à cela – au bonheur. Puis il y a bien sûr Brooklyn et puis Berlin, où le protagoniste succombe à toutes les tentations, drogues en premier lieu, pour s’aider à supporter ce monde. Mais on redécouvre surtout ce « Sud » mythique de la culture musicale noire américaine, entre le Mississippi et le Tennessee de son enfance.

Le livre retrace alors la jeunesse du musicien, « fils sans père » comme Scott-Heron, qui construit cette personnalité complexe, de son enfance où il fut le parfait élève, à l’étudiant déchiré par les doutes et les absences, en passant par les moments magiques auprès de sa grand-mère maternelle, les plus beaux passages du livre. « La prédisposition se manifesta très tôt chez lui », annonce alors le narrateur, « dès sa naissance. Il est donné à peu de gens de maintenir cette flamme, d’y croire vraiment, sans soupçon ni retenue. Et une toute petite minorité sait en user sans effort – du moins en apparence. Le reste de sa vie n’est qu’un long et patient apprentissage pour arriver à maîtriser ce talent, à user de ce feu intérieur sans risquer sa peau ». Car, ajoute-t-il : « Ce don des dieux comporte sa part de bien et sa part de mal ».

Un roman étonnant, à la structure excentrique, et qui mêle de manière originale digressions oniriques et réflexions culturalistes, mais qui a surtout le mérite de nous mettre en orbite sur cette trajectoire passionnante qu’a tissée Gil Scott-Héron.

NIGERIA : nouvelle assaut de Boko Haram sur la ville de Maiduguri

Au Nigéria, matinée de violences dans l'Etat du Borno : des combattants ont attaqué la ville de Maiduguri, au nord-est du pays, l'armée est intervenue pour repousser l'offensive.

L'assaut a commencé vers 5h, heure locale. Selon un habitant de Maiduguri joint ce matin, , des tirs ont été entendus dans toute la ville vers 7h, à l'arme légère puis lourde, suivis de cris. Les habitants sont désormais sous un couvre-feu de l'armée et ont donc interdiction de sortir.

L'attaque a eu lieu par deux fronts : les assaillants de Boko Haram ont d'abord visé le faubourg de NJimtilo, à l'entrée de la ville ; parallèlement d'autres combattants attaquaient au nord, dans le village de Monguno.

Les soldats de l'armée nigériane ont alors repoussé cette attaque simultanée par une opération aérienne et terrestre. Un avion a notamment bombardé les positions de Boko Haram.
Mais les combats étaient toujours en cours vers 10H TU.
Les militaires ont évacué une partie des habitants, d'autres ont commencé à fuir, puis les soldats et ont été soutenus par des membre d'une milice d'autodéfense locale.

Les grands axes sont désormais bouclés.

La ville de Maiduguri, capitale de l'Etat du Borno, dans le nord-est du Nigeria, est le fief historique des islamistes de Boko Haram, dont le mouvement y a été créé en 2002. C'est de  là qu'il a lancé son insurrection en 2009. Avec son million d'habitants, elle est un carrefour stratégique pour l’organisation islamiste, régulièrement visé.

Les habitants de la région craignaient depuis des mois une offensive sur Maiduguri.
Hier, le président Goodluck Jonathan, en campagne pour les élections prévues pour mi-février avait de nouveau promis de mettre fin à l'insurrection... Ce matin, le secrétaire d'Etat américain, John Kerry, est arrivé à Lagos pour une visite consacrée à l'avenir politique du pays et à la lutte contre le terrorisme.
