Brooklyn-born artist Jean-Michel Basquiat filled numerous notebooks with poetry fragments, wordplay, sketches, and personal observations ranging from street life and popular culture to themes of race, class, and world history. The first major exhibition of the artist's notebooks, Basquiat: The Unknown Notebooks features 160 pages of these rarely seen documents, along with related works on paper and large-scale paintings.
A self-taught artist with encyclopedic and cross-cultural interests, Basquiat was influenced by comics, advertising, children's sketches, Pop art, hip-hop, politics, and everyday life. Basquiat: The Unknown Notebooks emphasizes the distinct interplay of text and images in Basquiat’s art, providing unprecedented insight into the importance of writing in the artist’s process. The notebook pages on display contain early renderings of iconic imagery—tepees, crowns, skeleton-like figures, and grimacing faces—that also appear throughout his large-scale works, as well as an early drawing related to his series of works titled Famous Negro Athletes.
Basquiat: The Unknown Notebooks is organized by the Brooklyn Museum and is curated by Dieter Buchhart, guest curator, with Tricia Laughlin Bloom, former Associate Curator of Exhibitions, Brooklyn Museum. A fully illustrated catalogue accompanies the exhibition.

Bristol inspiration - watercolours
Bristol did inspire me a lot as followers of this blog may have seen. I've met wonderful artists in the beautiful and wholehearted city and now all I want is to be the best of myself in return.
My last week there, early June, I had the opportunity to spend time at the Other Art Fair - Bristol, where the painters and artists I met and interviewed were in an other dimension compared to who I met in dozens of FIACs in Paris and Frieze Art Fair in London. Warm, sharing ideas, having time to talk about their work and the art world in general, they were a true inspiration!
See my previous post for details:

Today I painted my first watercolours thanks to the beautiful memories of paintings from Emma Davis and Abigail McDougall, and also inspired by my friend Anne Cazaubon (see http://www.annecazaubonart.com/).
And it was enough to make me very happy...

Tiken Jah Fakoly rend hommage au reggae : "Is It Because I'm Black?" With Ken Boothe

http://www.telerama.fr/musique/regardez-un-premier-clip-extrait-du-nouveau-disque-de-tiken-jah-fakoly,128228.php

http://toutelaculture.com/musique/pop-rock/le-pop-group-legende-du-post-punk-de-bristol-revient-et-debarque-a-paris/
--
L’expression convient bien à Mark Stewart.
We’re all addicted to something / Money / Sex / Television / Paranoia / Notoriety’. « Nous sommes tous dépendant à quelque chose… ».

Conflict Armament Reaseach's report show Sudanese arms spread in South Sudan and further
My latest report for Rfi English:
Sudanese arms spread in East Africa
Jonglei State, South Sudan
UN/Isaac Billy
A town in Jonglei State after fightings.
Sudan has been supplying weapons to South Sudanese rebels,
according to a report by Conflict Armament Research (CAR) released
earlier this month. Meanwhile, in northern Kenya, Sudanese guns have
been found among pastoralists.

While Sudan has been the main source of arms and ammunitions in east Africa for decades, the latest report from the Conflict Armament Research Group may add to concerns in the region.
It shows that weapons and ammunition captured by pro-government
forces from opposition forces in Jonglei state late last year had come
from neighbouring Sudan.
For Claudio Gramizzi, the group's main expert, the report proves the weapons are falling in the hands of south Sudanese rebels. But they also end up further away, in northern Kenya, for instance, and in the Central African Republic.
In Northern Kenya Turkana North MP Christopher Nakuleu claimed this week that a flow of guns are coming into the country from South Sudan, most of them of made in Sudan. The arms have been used by different tribes in pastoralists' groups, fueling more violence in a dry, poor region.
It is unclear whether Khartoum is deliberately supplying rebels. But for Roland Marchal, French senior researcher on central and east Africa, there will be no end to the trade without a political solution to the conflict.
The surge of Sudanese arms in east and central Africa might therefore worsen the weak political response to the ongoing conflict in South Sudan, with the looming danger of increasingly affecting the entire region.
