Lady Nade at WOMAD

WOMAD, for World of Music, Arts and Dance, is one of the biggest summer festival in England. Lady Nade, from West England main city, Bristol, made it this year on the stage of Molly's Bar.

Nade and her musicians: guitarist Seb Gutiez and drummer Mike Cooper at the radio Womad production site before her interview on the Festival's radio waves:

After a rainy Friday, the sun is back on Saturday!!

Ready to enjoy what the Open Air Stage has to offer!

Love is in the air too...

Another Bristol legend was on stage that night: Mr Daddy G, from seminal, legendary and unrivalled Massive Attack:

More pictures soon.

Back from Womad, Bristol and South West England

I'm back from a day of travelling back from the wonderful (and wonderfully muddy) WOMAD Festival, and my head is full of gratitude :)

WOMAD in the rain...

Lady Nade and her band at WOMAD, on Molly's Bar stage :

This weekend ends a wonderful trip to the West Country, my sixth since February.

WOMAD in the sun !

Glorious Lady Nade!

Bristol, you put me through many lessons this time and I love you even more each time I come. You and your people have my heart.

Bristol's Harbourside:

First lesson:
Sometimes, even when you meet wonderful people you have so much in common with, there will always be a corridor between you... Or a kitchen. But love them anyway!

Sonic illustration nb #1:

Sonic illustration nb #2:

Lesson two: Sleeplessness, as all weaknesses, can become a strength.

Lesson 3: Experience makes you closer to people. First homeless night in my life made me stronger... (Ah those dark streets in Bedminster...).

Lesson 4: England may have no summer, but it has much much talent and love, and it's more important!

Lesson 5: Music has so much power!!! (but that, we knew)

--

Special thanks to the great ones: Nade, Jon, David, Becks, and my

special superstar.

Thanks to all the artists and musicians met on the road too. xx

PS. I'll post many more pictures tomorrow...

About Barack Obama's visit to Kenya

Adjoa Anyimadu Research Associate | Africa Programme

President Obama’s attendance at the sixth Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Nairobi will carry great personal significance for the American leader. But for Kenya, this weekend marks a vital re-assertion that the country, dogged in recent years by large-scale terrorist attacks, International Criminal Court indictments against its leaders and the resultant negative international headlines, is safe and open for business.

The bullishness of business

The choice of Nairobi for this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Summit is a boon for Kenya, and reflects the world-leading business and technological development emerging from the country. Recent innovations in mobile payments (M-Pesa), clean energy (Sanergy) and portable internet (BRCK) have been incubated in Kenya before being used globally. The summit also demonstrates the gap between the dominant view of Kenya in the mainstream international media, which has focused on security concerns, and the perspective of international business. Despite negative international publicity, many global corporations remain bullish about Kenya’s economic prospects – the high profile US and Kenyan companies on the agenda of the summit demonstrate this. Even with other concerns, GDP growth that consistently tops five per cent annually and pro-business government policies are attracting investors.

Security: A mutating threat?

Last weekend’s reopening of the Westgate shopping centre, scene of the largest al Shabaab attack in Kenya’s capital, was tied to Obama’s visit, and was intended to highlight that Kenya is secure for both consumers and international business-people. But the reality is that the country’s security situation remains deeply uncertain. After the deaths of 67 people in the Westgate attack in September 2013, improvements have been made in training of the Kenyan Defence Forces, and in intelligence-sharing between Kenya, its immediate East African neighbours and Western partners. But there are continued concerns over the shortcomings of command and control in Kenya’s security sector, and corruption within the Kenyan police. The US released a travel advisory in anticipation of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit, warning Americans that a flagship meeting to be attended by their own president is itself a potential target for a terrorist attack.

Latest news from Run The Jewels:

Meow The Jewels Adds Massive Attack, Should Be Out In September

By Peter Helman / July 23, 2015 - 7:57 pm

Last week, Run The Jewels debuted the Boots-produced “Meowrly,” the surprisingly listenable first song from their gloriously bonkers Meow The Jewels remix project. They assembled an impressive lineup of big-name talent to help out with cat noise-wrangling, including Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, Zola Jesus, Baauer, the Alchemist, and Dan The Automator.

And now El-P has announced that trip-hop legends Massive Attack — who were seen in the recording studio with RTJ earlier this year — will also be contributing a track. El-P tweeted that they’re still working out an official release date, but the plan is to have it out by September. The digital version will be released for free, and all proceeds from vinyl purchases of the album will go to victims of police brutality.

Manchild

Bristol - London connexion... Way back then.

Memories from my past, somewhere, somehow.

Great singer. Woman figure.

Man-child...

"Manchild"

OK, you're on your own, it's late
Your girlfriend is on another date with the hero in your dream
Turn around, ask yourself. So, you think you're gonna win this time Manchild?

Is it the pain of the drinking
Or the Sunday sinking feeling
The car never seems to work
When it's late your girlfriend's on a date
And the hero with her in your dream
In your sleep it seemed to like you
Turn around and ask yourself
Turn around ask yourself

Manchild, will you ever win
Manchild, look at the state you're in

Could you go undercover
And sell your brand new lover (could you)
Be someone else for a night
Maybe someone else will love you
You sell your soul for a tacky song
Like the one you hear on the radio
Turn around ask yourself
Turn around and ask yourself

Manchild, will you ever win
Manchild, look at the state you're in
Manchild, he will make you cry
Manchild, Manchild, Manchild

From Monday down to Friday
You're working on another man's car
Or is it in the factory?
It doesn't matter where you are

Just turn around and ask yourself is this communication
Accentuate the positive and give some illustration
See Manchild, you're no one, you turn the microphone on
Control communication when I'm kickin' it and so on
To the point that I need, the air that I breathe
Into an audience that's waiting and ecstatic to receive
For the meantime another mean rhyme, I keep on sayin' it
I know what the time is the crowd will keep playing it
Through the speaker boxes loud's my diagnosis
'Cause I believe in miracles and words in heavy doses.
Enough R-E-S-P-E and C-T
Respect yourself express no stress the mike is easy
Just believe that all you need is the air that you breathe.
Turn around ask yourself

Manchild, will you ever win
Manchild, look at the state you're in
Manchild, he will make you cry
Manchild, Manchild, Manchild
He's the apple of your eye

Once bitten twice shy, why don't you bite me again
Just take it in the right and go tell your friend
Are you ready for the words I turn the microphone on
A figure of speech to reach you at the back and so on
The style I'm stimulating dance floors
Raise your body temperature now and
This demands for power in the amp you know louds my diagnosis
'Cause I believe in miracles and words in heavy doses

Ahead of WOMAD, presenting Lady Nade!

Lovely singer and powerful voice!

Lady Nade is from my darling place Bristol, and I'm following her to the best world music festival this coming weekend, WOMAD!

Listen here bellow!

WOMAD says : http://womad.co.uk/lineup/lady-nade
Lady Nade comes to WOMAD on the back of recent sell out performances at the Bristol Folk House, Bath Chapel Arts and Green Note London. Her voice speaks of long-lost jazz clubs and has a poise that belies her age. Drum and bass legend Roni Size has praised Lady Nade as “another hidden treasure from Bristol” and Ian Matthews of Kasabian has described her as “unique, wonderful, deep and soulful with a voice which has the power to move you.”

"A Place Called Home"

England... Paris? Somewhere else...?

"Just hold on to me"...

"A Place Called Home"

One day
I know
We'll find
A place of hope
Just hold on to me
Just hold on to me
Walk tight
One line
You're wanted
This time
There's no-one to blame
Just hold on to me

And I'm right on time
And the birds keep singing
And you're right on line
And the bells keep ringing
come on my love
And the battle is won
And the planes keep winging
And I'm right on time
And the girl keeps singing

I walk
I wade
Through full lands
And lonely
I stumble
I stumble
With you
I wait
To be born
Again
With love comes the day
Just hold on to me

Now is the time to follow through, to read the signs
Now the message is sent, let's bring it to it's final end

One-day-I-know-there'll-be-a-place-for-us.

In Europe

This screenprint is by 3-D, whose real name is Robert Del Naja, and who is better known for his role in the group Massive Attack. He also works as a visual artist, and has created record covers for his band, among others. This print references both religion and politics in its iconic imagery, using the European Union stars as a halo above the faceless character.
