Semaine cinéma

 Ces huit derniers jours, je me suis rattrapée en cinéma, après des semaines à privilégier le théâtre.

En quatre films :

A la Merveille
De Terence Malick

Poème visuel, comme le décrit le New York Time, hymne à l'amour et ses mystères mais surtout à la foi, en l'autre, dans la nature en un grand tout. Le mot s'impose : une merveille.
Bien sur, il y a une lenteur qui n'est pas supportable par tous, une absence délibérée de dialogues qui peut dérouter, et une expressivité qui ne passe pas par l'accentuation des faits et des actions. Vous êtes avertis.

Le Repenti
de Merzak Allouache

Solitude et silence de ces personnages qui errent désormais dans leur vie comme des demi-vivants, après les années de la 'décennie noire' en Algérie. L'histoire d'un islamiste, accusé d'avoir participé au terrorisme mais réhabilité par la loi d’amnistie, qui s'immisce dans la vie d'un couple déchiré par la mort de leur fille durant les pires années. Dur, mais réaliste.
Sortie le 10 avril.


Une Séparation
de Asghar Farhadi

On disait de ce film qu'il méritait amplement tous ces prix, on parlait de chef d’œuvre ; le temps m'a pourtant manqué pour le voir plus tôt, moi qui adore le cinéma iranien. Peu importe, voilà un film hors du commun, d'une incroyable beauté, mais surtout dont on ne décroche pas une seconde tant son rythme, sa mise en scène et le jeu des acteurs sont époustouflants. A voir absolument, peu importe quand.

ARTS, DUBAI AND AFRICA

Ah, I really wanted to be at the Dubai Art fair this year, as it presents a very special focus on African galleries and artists. Too short notice, I will focus on going to Art Dubai 2014 and in the meantime, follow for myself and others great moments from the fair, from Paris.

An Interview with Bisi Silva, Curator of Art Dubai's "Marker" project 

"This third edition of Marker, curated by Lagos-based Bisi Silva for the seventh edition of Art Dubai, describes the societal changes sparked by the rapid development of West African cities".

Centre for Contemporary Art (Lagos, Nigeria); 

Espace doual'art (Douala, Cameroon); 

Maison Carpe Diem (Ségou, Mali); 

Nubuke Foundation (Accra, Ghana); 

and Raw Material Company (Dakar, Senegal) for her project. 

"These artspaces feature such artists as Soly Cisse (Senegal), Ablade Glover (Ghana), Abdoulaye Konaté (Mali), Boris Nzebo (Cameron), and Taiye Idahor (Nigeria)".

For West African artists, a new leap beckons in Dubai

 After a recent resurgence at home and gradual inroad into the art market of the west, contemporary art from West Africa tests the waters of the Middle East.

 "INTERESTINGLY, the next testing ground for West African artists is the new blue-eyed boy of the 21st century’s business and leisure travel hub, Dubai. Under Marker, a sub-event of Art Dubai Fair, five artists via art advocacy organizations across West Africa will from March 20 to 23, 2013 at Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai be the focus of visitors. Art Dubai Fair has been rated as a major yearly international art gathering in the Middle East, with as much as 500 artists and 75 galleries from 32 countries participating every year, it attracts an estimated 22, 000 visitors"...

The U.A.E. aspires to be an art and cultural center. While the federation of Gulf sheikdoms is relatively open and tolerant, its ruling establishments are concerned about the political turmoil in other Arab countries and are also wary of art containing graphic images or anything else that might offend conservative Gulf sensibilities".

Slavs and Tatars - en français

If you follow this blog, you read about them a few times already.

Slavs and Tatars is a dual collective of artists, writers and thinkers dedicated to an era designated as Eurasia, going, to quote them, "from the former Berlin Wall to the Great Wall of China" and inviting esthetically and theoretically to challenge cultural boundaries within and around this area.

In 2013, the collective will be more than ever present in Paris, lucky us, and was firstly at Centre Pompidou's brillant Nouveau Festival, with some of their wonderful pieces and books, which toured the world from Brno, Czech Republic, to the MoMA, New York, such as a giant black and white carpet representing the throat-needed pronounciation of the "KH" phoneme of  languages such as Russian and Arabic, and a reading bench, among others.

On March 7, glorious date if there is any, they were in Beaubourg again for a special reading organised for the Book Machine event.

Do watch this amazing speech, which takes us from the Menil Foundation in Houston Texas to Moscow with the poet Velimir Khlebnikov, going through New York's midtown Sufi Mosque and the Azeri magazine printed between Tbilisi and Baku, in the 1910-20s, Molla Nasreddin.

Slavs and Tatars' work will be on display again in Paris soon: at L'Ecole des Beaux Arts from April.

"La Tête des autres": Marcel Aymé à la Comédie française

Ma chronique de la pièce pour Toute la Culture :

La Comédie Française donne à voir la Tête des autres de Marcel Aymé

Marcel Aymé rencontre la metteur en scène Lilo Baur pour la Comédie française, délice annoncé. Cette pièce à l’écriture exceptionnelle d’humour, ironie et antiphrase – le tout pour parler de la peine de mort (!) – est un ravissement de la première scène au dernier souffle, sur une fable mettant dans la balance deux valeurs profondément humaines : le sens de la justice et l’instinct de survie. A voir absolument !

Le rideau ouvre sur un intérieur bourgeois, cossu, on dirait la France des années 1950. Mais non, ici nous sommes en Poldavie, une petite république européenne tout juste remise de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, et qui tente de se remettre droite dans ses bottes démocratiques....
