The seventh edition of Art Dubai took place March 20-23, 2013, at Madinat Jumeirah. Besides
the gallery halls, the fair included a strong not-for-profit programme of curatorial and educational

performances; workshops; the unveiling of works by the winners of The Abraaj Group Art Prize;
and the critically acclaimed Global Art Forum.

Global Art Forum
In 2013 the Global Art Forum, the leading platform for cultural discussion and debate, explored
‘Definitionism’. Featuring commissioned projects and research, as well as six days of live talks,
the Forum brought together a diverse line-up of participants, including artists, musicians,
museum directors, strategists, writers, and thinkers. Titled ‘It Means This’, the Global Art
Forum_7 engaged with the terms words, phrases and clichés that proliferate in the art world
today and the nature of understanding itself. Global Art Forum_7 was curated by Istanbul-based
critic HG Masters, commissioned by 2012 Forum Director Shumon Basar, and featured over 40
contributors. It started in Doha (March 17-18, 2013) before continuing at Art Dubai, Madinat
Jumeirah (March 20-23, 2013). Global Art Forum is presented by Dubai Culture and Arts
Authority (Dubai Culture) and is held in partnership with Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art
(QMA).

product and furniture design; SIKKA, the fair run by Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai
Culture) and dedicated to new work by UAE-based artists; and Galleries Nights, featuring 40
