Back from Calais

Long weekend in the middle of the worst refugee camps in the world, in my own country... People are given less chance to adapt and survive here that in a slum in Port-au-Prince or a camp in Jordan or Northern Kenya.

Grande-Synthe has no infrastructure. It's a field of mud and a few filthy tents directly dropped on the ground. No proper place to rest or share a meal, only one access to water, refugees receiving themselves aid items and cloth and redistributing them among each other. I'm amazed by their strength and courage.

Calais' "Jungle", in comparison, seems welcoming and organised... People there are welcoming, joyful for most young men when we arrived, in the cold and under the rain. What a strong example of dignity.

We missed Jude Law by a few minutes... He caught the media attention... At least, it might bring interest?
