Proposition
In this discussion, curator and director Alya Sebti will enter into dialogue with anthropologist Jonas Tinius about the co-production of knowledge and decolonial processes. Alya and Jonas have initiated a series of discursive formats in the ifa-gallery Berlin, centred around the question of decolonising artistic institutions and anthropological as well as curatorial research. They will speak about the challenges of creating such dialogues as well as the role of the institution in this process.
Bios
Alya Sebti is Director at ifa-Galerie (Institute of Foreign Cultural Relations), Berlin. She has curated several exhibitions in Europe and North Africa and was the artistic director for the 5th edition of the Marrakech Biennale (2014). She has written and lectured extensively on art and the public sphere and is a board member of the International Biennale Association. In 2017/2018, she will act as a Guest Curator of the Dak’Art Biennale.
Jonas Tinius is an anthropologist of art and postdoctoral research fellow at the Centre for Anthropological Research on Museums and Heritage (CARMAH), Institute of European Ethnology, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His current research project explores how Berlin-based art institutions engage with notions of otherness and alterity through critical curatorial strategies. He is convenor of the Anthropology and the Arts Network of the European Association of Social Anthropologists (with Prof Roger Sansi, Barcelona).

Le 5 de décembre on accueillera Alya Sebti, commissaire invitée de Dak’art 2018 et directrice de l’Ifa-Galerie Berlin, à Paris pour un dialogue avec Jonas Tinius, anthropologue de l'Université Humboldt de Berlin. Alya dialoguera avec Jonas sur les pratiques de décolonisation vis-a-vis le changement de perspective institutionnel. Les deux ont déjà initié un programme discursive à l'Ifa Berlin, centrés autour de la question de la décolonisation des institutions artistiques et de la recherche anthropologique et curatoriale. Ils parleraient à Paris des défis liés à la création de tels dialogues ainsi que du rôle de l'institution et des espaces indépendantes dans ce processus.
Bios
Alya Sebti est commissaire spécialisée dans l’art contemporain d’Afrique du Nord, et la Directrice Artistique de la Biennale de Marrakech. Diplômée de l’ESC Reims avec un Master en Management, elle a étudié l’Histoire de l’Art à l’Ecole du Louvre, puis a obtenu un diplôme d’études supérieures en commerce de l’art à l’IESA (Institut d’Etudes Supérieures des Arts). En 2009, elle a travaillé comme commissaire générale au Salon de la Photo de Paris dédié aux pays arabes, et à l’Iran, dont le commissaire était Catherine David. Puis elle a travaillé au Maroc comme manager de “l’Art International Contemporain” dans le cadre de Art Holding Maroc, qui rassemblait la maison d’enchères CMOOA, la galerie d’art HD, le magazine Diptyk et la Marrakesh Art Fair. Après avoir travaillé lors de la 4e édition de la Biennale de Marrakech en tant que spécialiste d’Art Marocain Contemporain et avoir supervisé les projets parallèles, elle est aujourd’hui la Directrice Artistique de la 5e édition de la Biennale de Marrakech. En 2017/18, elle sera commissaire invitée de la Biennale Dak’Art.
Jonas Tinius est anthropologue d'art et chercheur postdoctoral au Centre de recherche anthropologique sur les musées et le patrimoine (CARMAH), Institut d'ethnologie européenne, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Son projet de recherche actuel explore comment les institutions artistiques basées à Berlin abordent les notions d'altérité à travers des stratégies de conservation critiques.
