In Mali, Adama Kamissoko, the governor of the Malian town of Kidal , returned yesterday (Thursday 11th)
to his city and regained his position, after
more than a yearlong absence. Ahead of the crucial nationwide elections to be
held on July 28th, Malians expect a lot on this move but Adama
Kamissoko's reinstatement comes at a time of violent protests in the northeastern
rebel stronghold.
In a interview today, I asked IIED
(International Institute for Environment and Development) director Camilla Toulmin
if the reinstallation of the governor can be enough to start the organisation
of the electoral process in the rebellious town.
