London hosts THE AFRICAN ART AUCTION

African art is a fast growing, increasingly significant and exciting part of the global art scene. Major collectors, and leading museums from MOMA and LACMA to the Tate Modern are now engaging with art emerging from a continent that is destined for major economic growth over the next twenty years. The debt owed by Western Modern and Contemporary Art to African art is only beginning to be fully comprehended as the global centre of power shifts southwards. Interest in African contemporary art from within Africa is growing exponentially led by collectors from the leading economies such as Nigeria and South Africa.
Angola’s receipt of The Golden Lion Award for the best national participation at the 55th Edition of the Venice Biennale in 2013 is further evidence of the importance of this previously neglected sector of the art market.
