KENYA: WESTGATE MALL'S ATTACK SUSPECTS ARE REJECTED BAIL OUT

Tomorrow on RFI English news, more on Kenya's Westgate inquiry:

In Kenya, a court denied bail Wednesday (yesterday) to four men facing trial in connection with the Westgate mall massacre in September in which at least 67 people were killed.

--

Magistrate Kiarie Waweru Kiarie told the accused in court in Nairobi their bail applications had been rejected because of "security concerns".

The four men are of Somali ethnic origins but it has not been cleared yet if they are actually Somali Kenyans or if they came into Kenya from Somalia or Europe.

Adan Mohamed Abidkadir Adan, Mohammed Ahmed Abdi, Liban Abdullah Omar and Hussein Hassan Mustafa have all pleaded not guilty to the charges of supporting a terrorist group.

They also face charges of entering Kenya illegally and obtaining false identification documents.

They are due to appear in court for a new hearing on December the 18th, but the actual trial is not expected to begin before mid-January.

Interpol and the US FBI have been helping Kenya in its investigations since the attack occurred on September the 21st and sources familiar with the investigation suggest the evidence concerning these suspects are credible enough.
